WebJust got civ vi, although I used to play a lot of civ ii back in the days. After a brief tutorial I started as Trajan on the middle difficulty. It was "over" by the time my legions were outdated. Next biggest civ had only 6 small cities to my 30+. I can basically choose what type of victory to have now. WebJust to compare Julius to Trajan, monuments cost 240 gold to purchase. So if Julius can kill 2 barb camps for every 1 city founded by Trajan, or conquer 1.2 cities per cities founded by Trajan his power is much much better (given the flexibility of gold).
